Removing camper's litter
The 'Right to Roam' means exactly that - the right to roam, not the right to set up camp and do as you please. Many lochsides and lay-byes (and passing places where you should not park in any case) have been 'trashed' by inconsiderate campers, and sometimes caravanners, who stop overnight or longer but fail to remove rubbish and 'other unmentionable' waste products.
The situation has now got to the stage where the National Park Authority is seeking powers to remove 'wild campers' where nuisance is caused. Many owners of lochside land are now resorting to placing obstacles in popular stopping places in an attempt to put an end to wanton destruction and nuisance caused by 'wild campers'.
If you do set up camp or caravan on an unofficial spot, please try to create as little nuisance as possible and always clear up before you leave. Wild camping means 'camping in the wild', in other words, away from the road, where no nuisance is caused and where you leave your chosen spot as you find it. See this page for guidance
There are many campsites and caravan parks in beautiful locations where you may have to pay a small fee, but will have all the facilities and sanitation you require - please use them when you can, and be considerate when you can't!
