Balquhidder Summer Music

BALQUHIDDER SUMMER MUSIC, 2008 SEASON

This is a series of six classical music concerts held in Balquhidder Church among the beautiful surroundings of the Braes o' Balquhidder. The series is now in its 23rd year. All the concerts are by professional musicians, and are held on Sunday evenings at 7pm. Tickets are £7, with £6 concessions and children under 15 free. Season tickets are available from the Balquhidder Summer Music Office, Tulloch Lodge, Balquhidder FK19 8PQ, telephone 01877 384338. There are season tickets for 4 concerts (£20), or for 6 concerts (£30). There are also plenty of tickets available at the door. Car parking around the church is easy.

29th June 2008
DIECI, VOCAL OCTET
Eight vocal studies students from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, This is a return visit after their very successful 2007 concert in Balquhidder, for some more excellent songs and opera excerpts.

THE CARTHA TRIO
Clarinettist Alan Bacchetti, who played in the Mozart Clarinet Quintet in Balquhidder last year, returns with Andrew Berridge (viola) and Laura Baxter (piano) for some more wonderful chamber music, including the Mozart ‘Kegelstatt’ trio.

DJORDJE GAJIC, ACCORDIAN
Djordje graduated from the Russian Academy of Music in 1993 with the honorary title ‘Solo Performer’. His programme will include a fascinating transcription of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor. Come and hear something different!

AMICI CELLO TRIO
Sonia Cromarty, Fiona Dippie and Helen McVey are three Scottish friends who studied cello with Robert Irvine at the RSAMD. If you’ve never heard a ‘cello orchestra’ before, then come along and hear some beautiful music.

PRIMROSE QIANO QUARTET
John Thwaites (piano), Susanne Stanzeleit (violin), Robin Ireland (viola), and Bernard Gregor-Smith (cello) will include a new work by Peter Maxwell Davies premiered earlier this month, and the Brahms Piano Quartet in C minor, a stupendous masterpiece.

SLIDE EFFECT, TROMBONE QUARTET
This is Scotland’s only professional trombone quartet, rapidly earning a reputation for being both entertaining and innovative. Concerts are informative and fun. A worthy finale to the Balquhidder 2008 season.
