Aberfoyle and Lochard Forest RoutesThe Forest tracksOn the south side of Loch Ard, to the west of Aberfoyle lies the Loch Ard Forest. The forest is a maze of trails, mostly gravel surfaces, which provide a wonderful selection of routes for all abilities. There are numerous small hills which provide commanding views as a reward for short diversions - these are marked with viewpoint signs. There are 2 worthy lochans and many smaller 'ponds' in the forest, each with its own unique attractions and wildlife. It would be well nigh impossible to describe all the possible routes through the forest so I have shown 3 popular routes on the map below. There is also a The map shows the 3 most popular routes which are also suitable for walkers. The Lochan Spling route starts from the old parish church which is about 400 years from Aberfoyle across the narrow bridge opposite the Trossachs hill road (Dukes Pass) The other 2 routes are best started from the car park at Milton - turn south at Milton over a bridge and continue to the car park about 400 yards up a tarmac, then gravel surfaced road. All routes are indicated on a large map at the Milton forest car park. If planning to do the longer route via Kinlochard, make sure you have a decent map with you as the tracks are not well signed for the long route - and some of the 'wrong turns' go on for several miles before ending suddenly at a turning area (for timber trucks).
