Auchlyne and Killin Branch line junctionDescription: |
List of medium ability walks
Callander area Trossachs area Strathyre/Balquhidder area Killin area Loch Lomond area |
This walk starts off on the same path as the Killin junction and Glenogle walk:
Now continue westwards, crossing the Gleann Dubh viaduct, through the gate and on along the old railway line until you meet the path that heads south from to Balquhidder. Take the path down to the farm and then turn right, heading east along the side of the A85(T) for a short distance, before crossing and following the minor road signposted for Auchlyne. Return to Killin by following this quiet road along the north side of Glen Dochart. This walk gives wonderful views of Glen Dochart. Alternatively you can do the walk in the opposite direction as follows : Opposite the top car park in Killin (just before the Falls) take the road up the hill beside the coach park. Follow this road as it falls down to the River Dochart, closing the road gates as you go. A lovely walk now takes you past the ruins of old farm buildings up on the right as you pass through the old MacNab lands of Bovain. The road eventually turns left over an ancient stone bridge and up to the main road. Turn right on the main road for a short while then cross over and go up the farm track to Ledcharrie Farm. Carry on past the farm and you will meet the old railway line which you can now follow left (east) to cross the A84 and back down to Killin
