best views of Loch Lomond

Duncryne Hill is just south of the village of Gartocharn close to the south shores of Loch Lomond. Although just under 500 feet high its summit viewpoint offers one of the most dramatic views that I've seen of the loch and its islands.

Tom Weir, that great man of the Scottish outdoor scene lived in Gartocharn in his final years and was a regular visitor to the Duncryne hill viewpoint from where he could see his beloved highland hills in all their splendour.

Location: NS 346859 just off the A811 at Gartocharn
Car park: Best at the small space beside the hill access off the narrow road leading south at the village centre.
Car park also available in village.
Length of walk: 0.75 mile
Time: Depends how clear the view is at the top!

Description

An easy walk for anyone of normal fitness although the last part of the walk would probably be a problem for anyone with mobility problems.
Strong foorwear recomended as some parts of the path can be muddy in wet weatherBen Lomond

Directions

At the centre of Gartocharn take the narrow road leading south.

Half a mile up this road a gate on the left provides access to the hill path.

Walk up through the woods to emerge at an open grassy area. Stay by the fence as you cross the open area and go through a gate into a fenced-off path.

Continue to another gate/style and beyond this the path veers right to meander fairly steeply through bracken to the top and viewpoint.

Return by the same path once you tire of the fabulous view.

The View of Loch Lomond!
