Loch Katrine Dam walk - about 2 miles round trip
Mostly easy walking with a short rough section . Wear strong shoes or boots in wet weather.
Description:
Length: about 2 mile
Start: Loch Katrine road about half a mile from Loch Achray
Parking: Junction Loch Katrine dam road and Trossachs Rd. (P)
Surface: Tarmac road and paths (one wet section)
Map: Shows walk to the dam (also Bealach Nam Bo walk)
Route
Walk up the Loch Katrine dam road, ignoring the left turn over the attractive little arched footbridge, to the dam and cross the steel grid walkway over the dam(it looks like a private area but is a public path up to and over the dam).
Some old steps lead on from the dam and up through the woods (mind your feet here) to cross a fence with a stile.
If you still feel energetic here, you can turn right after the stile to climb a little way round a rocky wooded knoll for views down to Loch Katrine, otherwise turn left to follow a rough track down beside the fence and through a dip which may be muddy in wet weather.
Continue for about half a mile, the track by now a rough forest road, until the little arched bridge comes into view on your left. Take the track on the left to cross the bridge over the burn (the Achray Water).
From the top of the bridge arch an unforgetable view of Ben Venue can be seen and a series of waterfalls are visible just upstream from the bridge.
After crossing the bridge the track re-joins the dam road where you turn right to return to the car park.
