Lower Crags walk
easy walking - length of your choice.

Description:

Length: about 1-2 mile depending on route taken
Start:   Either anywhere on the green dotted route or Bracklinn Road Car Park.

Either drive up Bracklinn Rd at the east end of Main St or walk up North Church St and a footpath to Ancaster road, turn right then left at Bracklinn Rd. At the top of Bracklinn Rd turn left then right into the woods then 200 yds to a small car park among the trees on the left.

From the car park there are 3 main options of varying steepness.

Green route: This is the easiest route and can be joined at any point, with access either at the car park or from the access routes marked from Callander Main Street. The path meanders through mixed woodlands with a seat at the highest point from which to enjoy a view over the town to Loch Venachar and the Trossachs hills.

Blue route: This is a little steeper than the lower path but enjoys more extensive views from its highest point.

Red route: This is quite a steep path and may be treated as an addition to the blue route. The blue route leads to the highest point in the lower crags walks with excellent views over the whole length of Loch Venachar and to Ben Gulipen (the one with the radio masts on the summit). The red route may be extended by climbing the steep steps to the top of Callander Crags for some really astounding views in all directions.

Return either by the same route or by heading left at the top of the steps to descend to the west end of Callander or right to follow a rough path to Bracklinn road about 2 miles from town via Bracklinn road. The last option is quite rough underfoot and sturdy boots or shoes are recommended.
