This is a gentle walk over mainly forest roads and rough tracks. The height gain is only about 500 ft and there are no dificulties of terrain.

The walk can be taken in either direction or as a linear return trip. If treated as a one way trip, ensure you have transport to get back to your car. The Trossachs trundler may be suitable.

Photo-opportunities abound, especially for photos featuring woodlands and a small lochan near the highest point.

Directions:

The car park is beside the Invertrossachs road at East Lodge on the south shore of Loch Venachar about half a mile west of the carpark at the east end of the loch.

Walk west along the lochside road for just under a mile to Dullater where a signpost to the left indicated 'public footpath to Aberfoyle via Menteith Hill'. Follow this path up the hill to join a track leading west below some power lines. At a clearing, the track heads up the hill again to reach a hidden loch beyond a forest road.

Continue along the forestry road on the west side of the loch and before the road veers right away from the loch, look for a narrow track dropping down to the lochside where the track continues.

Beyond the loch, the track rises for a short way before dropping again to cross a large open area to the west of a low lying wetland.

The Menteith hills are now clearly visible rising to the right with the higher peaks in the forest park rising away to the west.

After about threequarters of a mile and a couple of shallow fords, the track re-enters the woods at a stile and eventually encounters a second stile and another ford at the start of another forest road.

Just under half a mile later, turn left onto another narrow track which now drops down to further forest roads leading to the A81 Aberfoyle road.

To reach Aberfoyle, turn right on the A81 then right again at a T junction to reach Aberfoyle after about 1 mile on the tarmac.

Either return the way you came or use your preferred means of transport to return to Callander and the Invertrossachs road.
