  • Callander German Speaking Group

An informal group of experienced German-speakers who get together, one Friday evening each month, in the home of one of their members, to enjoy discussion of a pre-arranged topic, along with general conversation, word games and fun – and, of course, coffee and cake!   Since only German is spoken throughout the evening, the group is intended for people with a reasonable command of the language.  Approx. 50% of our members are native speakers, people from Germany, Austria & Switzerland, who now live in or around the Callander area.  We do not teach, and the level of German is not suitable for beginners.  Dates and discussion topics are announced in the Ben Ledi View and also distributed to members by email, in advance of each meeting.

  • Callander Writers

From its origins as a Creative Writing Course set up by Stirling Council quite a few years ago, the group has evolved into Callander Writers, now comprising two groups: one which meets weekly on Tuesday mornings and the other every fortnight, on Thursday evenings.  Our meetings are a coming together of like-minded souls who get together on a regular basis to enjoy their writing and to share their thoughts and work with one another, for comment, encouragement and constructive criticism. From time to time, we invite tutors to inspire and guide us; but on a weekly/fortnightly basis we simply meet to spend two hours together in thought, writing and discussion.  Callander Writers have just published their fourth book, Living Writing, a compilation of our most recent work, consisting of a variety of short (and longer) stories, poems and articles.
